A very wise client asked me a few months ago, “How Do I Love Myself?”
Aside from the obvious, unmotivating answers we have all heard, such as “because you have to”, “you need to love yourself before loving others”, “because loving yourself is crucial to your self-esteem” and “if you don’t love yourself, how can you fully enjoy life?”, I honestly didn’t know how to approach the question in a helpful manner.
I let this question simmer in the back of my mind for a few months. Then last weekend, part of the answer triggered within me. I am hoping this will help put things in perspective as to why this is probably the most important question we all need to answer to attain a successful, meaningful and happy life.
First of all, I strongly believe that we are living on this planet to learn many life lessons that will help us grow spiritually. No matter what your beliefs are, chances are you have said at one point or another, “I think I finally learned my lesson”, or “Lesson learned, now I can move on”. However, the one major lesson we all have in common is that we need to learn to love! Not just “say” the world love, or “think” the word love, but TRULY love.
This seems so simple in concept but it involves so much trial and error. First of all, the opposite of love is fear. So if you have any fear in your body at all, that means you are not operating 100% from love. Fear based emotions and feelings include doubt, judgement of others, anger, manipulation, tension, blame, emotional pain, and so much more. These often turn into the ugly self-indulging side-effects, like self-doubt, self-judgement, self-frustration, self-sabotage, self-blame, self-inflicted pain and a self-perceived victim mentality.
Also remember that fear is a master of disguise. So if you channel all of your energy into something “good”, that can sometime lead to an obsession which is ultimately led by fear. The trick is to know when the obsession is healthy and when it is limiting. For example, an amazing athlete can channel very positive energy into a sport, but if the athlete starts to dismiss the value of people in their lives and start to judge others by feeling superior, then the obsession is fuelled by fear.
While we are all living our “perfectly imperfect” lives, we have opportunities almost everyday to work on eliminating the lower-vibrating fears within ourselves. Instead of feeling like a victim and reacting like a victim, always try to observe the situation from all angles instead. Feel compassion for each side of the story, but do not feed into it or identify with either side.
Also remember, as long as you are still judging others, you will always be judging yourself. Most of the time, we judge ourselves even more critically than we judge others.
Finally, always do your best to forgive others. If you can learn to forgive others, you can then learn to forgive yourself. And if you can learn to forgive yourself, then you can truly learn to love yourself. In its pure form, our soul is pure love. So strive to purify your soul each and every day. The less fear you have within you, the more enjoyable life will be!

With the excitement of spring, the new birth of plant life outdoors and the strong energy of 2012, I got inspired to work on a project for a new book I am writing. I have to share with you a very important discovery. Since 2012, I have been noticing a VERY different energy in myself, as well as in my clients. Have you noticed the following:
- A strong urge to make drastic changes in your life
- The inner strength and power to recognize that some parts of your life (including habits, the way you do things, the way you think, and even the way you feel about certain things) need to change?
- The recognition that some lies you have convinced yourself to believe about your own life or personal or professional circumstances in the past are no longer resonating with you?
The list goes on and on. Although most people started feeling this subtle shift of energy in early fall 2011, now it seems to be a very strong direction for everyone I am speaking with. It is almost like the rose coloured glasses are coming off and that you now have the ability to see things clearly, and see things in perfect truth. Your heart, or core body essence, simply KNOWS that something is off and something needs to change.
If you have noticed these changes within yourself, you are not alone! Now that you are aware of this, pay attention to the messages your body and intuition are giving you. Notice how you react to certain circumstances, and how your thought process may have changed.
In my opinion, 2012 is bringing us the very strong (and much needed) ability to see things clearly and in truth, to recognize what is right from wrong and finally, giving us the desire to make a change. It is a wonderful opportunity to embrace this new found inner strength and move forward.
During my treatments, however, I have noticed that most of my clients need to be realigned to the energy of 2012. I call it the 2012 Alignment. What seems to be happening is that the lower body (root and sacral chakra – pelvis area and legs), are stuck in the old energy of fear and old way of doing things, and the upper body (solar plexus to crown – diaphragm to head) seems to be ready to move forward.
This misalignment is creating a “push and pull” on many peoples’ energy and creating confusion, exhaustion, and lower back pain for many. Luckily, I was guided to do a 2012 Alignment on several clients (and myself) and I am now offering this as a stand alone treatment which I am offering on this site as a distance treatment. Welcome to my new blog! My name is Catherine Whittaker and I could describe myself as an author, healer, teacher, motivator and intuitive life coach. But as you get to know me a little more, you will probably just refer to me as “The Energy Girl.”
I have a unique, diverse background. Early in my career, I would have been described as a writer, editor, researcher, graphic designer, and marketer.
Later on, I dabbled in international business development, internet marketing, sales, and small business coaching.
Finally, 7 years ago, I left the corporate world completely to open up a small holistic practice where I offered (and still offer) services such as Energy Therapy, Foot Reflexology, Massage, Aromatherapy, Pet Healing, Intuitive Readings and Life Coaching. I also offer training and workshops on a variety of topics such as intuitive development, self-healing, energy therapy and spiritual advancement.
To kick off 2012 with a bang, I just released my brand new book, Becoming Your Dog’s God: Mastering the Art of Pack Leader in No Time Flat, which reveals my newly discovered secret on how to instantly become a dog pack leader. (Read more about it in the “My New Book” tab above!)
I live my life intuitively and I am a big believer in following the path that I feel the most strongly about. For now, I feel it is important to bring some of these topics together, topics that pertain to life, business and personal development. I realize the combination is a little odd, but personal life, business, passions, interests and personal development all blend together on a constant basis to bring together the true essence of who you are now, and who you truly want to become!
